Esophagus Cancer Survival

AN IN-DEPTH INFORMATION RESOURCE FOR ESOPHAGEAL CANCER

What is the Cause of Esophagus Cancer?

Cancer of the esophagus develops when the cells in the lining of the esophagus change as a result of damage.

Continual damage causes the cells to undergo change, often to harden or perhaps form scar tissue. It is thought, though not absolutely proven, that constant attack actually changes the DNA structure of the cells themselves. Unfortunately these changes, whether at the DNA level or not, can still result in the cells becoming cancerous.

So the short answer to the question “what causes cancer of the esophagus?” is simply – damage!

And consequently, the key to preventing esophageal cancer is to minimise the possibility of damaging the esophagus lining in the first place.

So let’s have a look at the things we can do to minimise the cause of esophogeal cancer.
